Fred Whitfield either is one cool cowboy or he's the world's greatest liar.
Whitfield did not finish in the money in Sunday's final go-round in calf roping, but he finished as the NFR average champion, and the $33,104.59 bonus gave him more than a $10,000 cushion over runner-up Ohl.
Whitfield, who stood third in calf roping and second in the all-around standings going into Sunday's go-round, won it all with a 9.8-second run that allowed him to clinch the average title.
