In the film, Freddie is the co-creator of a web based reality horror series entitled "Dangertainment," in which teens are fitted with video cameras and challenged to spend the night in a frightening or "haunted" location in exchange for a cash prize. A cutting edge program, Freddie hopes that he will become rich off of his ventures.
Skills Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. In addition to running the Dangertainment website and show, Freddie Harris is revealed to have several other talents throughout the course of the film. While being attacked by Michael Myers, Freddie delievers a karate kick to his foe, sending him flying through a window. He earlier dresses up as Michael and uses stealth tactics to sneak up on his contestants, scaring them. Towards the end of the film, he breaks down a wooden door (despite being wounded) to save Sara, the female protagonist, from certain doom. As the film closes and the two are confronted by the media, Freddie uses his skills as an orator to inform the reporters that, by interviewing the survivors in hopes of getting "sound-bites,", they are downplaying the very real threat that Michael Myers has posed over the years. Fate Despite facing seemingly-certain death at several points throughout the film, Freddie is in fact one of only two characters in the film to survive Myers' killing spree. Early in the film, while dressed as Myers, Freddie confronts the real killer, who appears ready to dispatch of him. However, Freddie mistakes Myers for another crew member, and verbally berates him for ruining the prank (if two Myers' are visible, the contestants will obviously know that it's a gag perpetrated by the crew members). For reasons that are unclear, Myers simply walks away from Freddie at this point, without killing him. Towards the end of the film, when Sara is locked in a shed with Myers advancing on her, Freddie bursts through the door and attacks the killer with a shovel. While ultimately unsuccessful in this effort, he does buy them some time. Myers confronts Freddie and raises his knife; however, Freddie, thinking quickly, unplugs wires from a nearby circuit breaker and electrocutes Michael Myers. The two escape the shed, and Freddie announces that Dangertainment is finished. His future ventures remain unknown.
Themes The character of Freddie Harris is initially portrayed a somewhat sleazy, money-grubbing entrepeneur, stopping at nothing to make a quick buck. His Dangertainment program is exploitative, giving the audience cheap thrills at the expense of the contestants involved. However, as the film progresses and the true evil of Myers presents itself, Freddie undergoes somewhat of a transformation, eventually risking his own life in order to save Sara. This theme of redemption is common in horror movies, wherein a character initially portrayed in a negative light becomes heroic when confronted with a greater, more threatening foe. In addition, the character can also be seen as a commentary on the somewhat recent phenomenon of reality-based entertainment. In many of these programs, such as Fear Factor, the pain and hardships of real people are presented as entertainment to audiences. Fear Factor was an American stunt/dare reality game show. ...
