Frederica is a town located in Kent County, Delaware. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 648.

Frederica is located at 39°0'31" North, 75°27'58" West (39.008585, -75.466194)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 648 people, 246 households, and 168 families residing in the town. The population density is 297.9/km² (769.1/mi²). There are 275 housing units at an average density of 126.4/km² (326.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 70.22% White, 26.85% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. 3.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 246 households out of which 32.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.9% are married couples living together, 17.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 26.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.17.


In the town the population is spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.6 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $30,781, and the median income for a family is $41,389. Males have a median income of $24,688 versus $22,222 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,118. 16.4% of the population and 12.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 28.2% of those under the age of 18 and 12.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
