Decisions on the construction of Type I sound barriers are made during the final design phase of the project development, after final horizontal and vertical alignments are determined and a detailed engineering analysis and reasonable noise abatement can be made.
Sound barriers that meet SHA criteria, as accepted by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will be constructed as part of any projects that add additional capacity to US 15.
The sound barrier project costs would also need to include grading, potential retaining walls, drainage, storm water management, etc. associated with the widening in order to avoid having to relocate them in the future.
