A freguesia (pron. IPA: /fɾɛ.ɣɨ.'zi.ɐ/) is a secondary local administrative unit in Portugal and the former Portuguese overseas provinces. It may be translated as "civil parish". A freguesia is a subdivision of a concelho (municipality). It is governed by a junta de freguesia (pron.
