The East German government approved the building of the Temple on practical grounds, because of the many Latter-day Saints requesting visas to travel to Switzerland to attend the Bern Switzerland Temple. Temple Design: Modern, single-spire design with German influence—two high, Gothic-style arches run parallel with face of building and are bisected by two similar arches to form spire.
Quality construction materials were not available nor a statue of the angel Moroni permitted during the original construction of the temple, but the results were commendable.
