Background

Frog was originally a young squire named Glenn who was a good friend of the hero Cyrus of Guardia. According to the storyline, the sorcerer Magus killed Cyrus and turned Glenn into a frog on "advice" from his assistant Ozzie. Ashamed of his new form, Glenn took on the name Frog and lived the life of a hermit in a remote forest. During Chrono Trigger, Frog must acquire the Masamune and the Hero's Medal to muster up the power to reconfront Magus. He joins Crono and travels to Magus's castle, eventually defeating the powerful wizard. Frog confronts Magus once again following the disaster at Zeal's Ocean Palace. If the player decides against an aggressive course of action, Magus will join the party. If Magus is fought and killed, however, Frog will turn back into a human during certain endings. In one of the side-quests near the end of the game, Frog has to go into the haunted grave of Cyrus to make peace with his spirit. In doing so, the Masamune's full power is revealed and becomes the second most potent weapon in the entire game, next to Crono's sword, Rainbow.

Frog speaks in a grandiose, archaic manner often using words such as 'thou' 'thee' and 'shalt' (albeit somewhat inaccurately, as he often produces ungrammatical sentences by adding the archaic suffixes '-est' and '-eth' to verbs where they do not belong according to the grammar of Early Modern English). It is notable as no one else in his era talks this way. When Frog is shown in flashbacks as Glenn he talks normally.

There is also an unrelated character named Glenn in Chrono Cross. Chrono Cross ) is a PlayStation RPG created by Square Co. ...

In the original Japanese version, Frog's name was カエル (kaeru). This is a pun as this can be read both as "frog"(蛙)or the verb "to transform, to change" (変える). It should be noted that, in the Japanese version, he did not speak with the "Middle Ages Accent" that he has in the American version and instead, talks rather rudely. In fact, if one regards to "true Elizabethan English", then most of what Frog says is wrong grammatically.
