OWASSO - During a recent meeting of FrontierConference athletic directors, the five western division schools - Bartlesville, Sapulpa, Sand Springs, Stillwater and Ponca City, announced that they were splitting away from the FrontierConference and forming their own conference with Enid after this school session.
The five western schools cited lack of parity and the inability to compete at the same level as the eastern teams, which include powerhouses Jenks and Union and the largest school in the state, Broken Arrow.
The FrontierConference has been in existence since the 1981 season, and has been the most dominating conference in the state.
