The album would garner four top 40 singles: "After the Fall" (#23), "Send Her My Love" (#23), "Faithfully" (#12), and "Separate Ways" (#8), and a rock radio hit in "Chain Reaction." All of the first five tracks (the album's first side) had videos created for them.

Arguably the album would have been an even bigger success had it not been for the last minute decision by Michael Dilbeck, the band’s longtime A & R man, to switch two tracks; he put "Back Talk" and "Troubled Child" in, and took out "Ask the Lonely" and "Only the Young." Jonathan Cain had more input on this album; not only did he once again help co-write all the tracks, he was the main pen behind "Faithfully", and there is more emphasis on keyboards.

  • Highest chart position: the album reached #2 on the Billboard album charts.

Frontiers Album Review: Creem, June 1983 (527 words)
Nor is Frontiers the canvas of lulled and dulledisms I painted it to be in those dreaded opening graphs.
Frontiers, then, is good enough to satiate the average pop-metal plodder.
Listen to the new Journey album, I suppose, and drift off into the sleep and dreams of the never satisfied.
PETER GABRIEL Peter Gabriel 3 reviews and MP3 (4808 words)
I found this album relatively uninteresting on a progressive note as from the opening track Intruder (maybe my fave on this album) until the secondlast track Normal life, we deal with a sophisticated pop with many interesting twists, but nothing exhilarating for the average prohead unless he is an unconditional fan.
Peter's third album is probably his most experimental release and one of the most inventive albums of the early 80's "new wave" (along with IMHO KC's Discipline and Talking Heads' Remain In Light).
Album "3" (sometimes called "Melting Face" due to the cover art) is the first truly great PG platter, a much more coherent set, with substantially improved, consistently intriguing songwriting and compelling instrumental arrangements.
