About Frost

Frost made her first appearance in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as an apprentice to Sub-Zero, possessing powers similar to his. Although her origins are unknown, the theory has generally been discarded that she is Sub-Zero's sister. Her dedication to fighting and learning is overshadowed by her rivalry with anyone greater than her (in the first place her sifu himself, but to a lesser extent Sonya), which makes her a character vulnerable to all kinds of temptations, both internal and external. Her true goal is to become grand master of the Lin Kuei herself. As such, she is the stock character of the overly ambitious fledgling. Towards the end of Deadly Alliance, in Outworld, she ripped off Sub-Zero's Dragon Medallion to amplify her own powers and become Grand Master of the Lin Kuei, but it proved too much for her body to handle. Her own powers consumed and killed her. Mortal Kombat: Deception begins with Sub-Zero trying to find a proper place to put her body to rest. Trivia

  • While she possesses the ability to freeze, it is unknown whether or not she is the sister of Sub-Zero (Sub-Zero's history states that he had a sister while growing up with his elder brother and his parents while in America). It is unlikely, however, since one would imagine that he would recognize his own sister.
  • Despite having believed to be dead, she appears in Mortal Kombat: Deception in both Konquest Mode and in the Dark Prison stage where she appears as a prisoner. However, it should be noted that Konquest Mode is assumed to take place mostly in the past, and the Dark Prison also contains many other "dead" or discarded characters. The Dark Prison may also be part of the Netherrealm, and thus would not imply that Frost still lives.
  • Along with Kenshi, Quan Chi, and Kitana, she is one of the only characters in Deadly Alliance to be seen performing a kata. She uses an especially energetic style for this, with several impressive jumps and kicks.
  • As implied above, Frost does not get along with Sonya. It is mentioned in the Konquest mode that Sonya arrived at the Lin Kuei temple, but Frost was overzealous on guard duty and attacked her. Based on Frost's continued hatred, it is probable that she lost (or almost lost) to Sonya, wounding her pride.
  • In Mortal Kombat: Deception's Konquest mode, the people of the Chaosrealm talk in backwards words. One of the phrases they say is along the lines of 'Could Frost be in hibernation'. Hinting she may not be left for dead just yet.

Mortal Kombat 4 brought the series into 3D, replacing the digitalized fighters of the previous games with polygon models, while Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was the first in the series to skip arcades altogether and go directly to consoles, a symptom of U.S. arcade market's dramatic decline.
Although many of the more popular characters were spawned from these palette swaps, the sheer over-saturation of the roster with them, as well as the fighting game genre's gradual demand for unique looks for all their characters, lead to many fans growing sick of the re-colors, and joking about their overuse in the series.
The Mortal Kombat tournament was originally thought to be a solely human conception, until later retcons revealed it to be universal among the series' featured Realms, created by the Elder Gods as a way for other realms to defend themselves against Outworld after it grew too powerful.
