Encyclopedia > Fruity Pebbles
The Fruity Pebbles box as it appeared in the 1970s.

Fruity Pebbles is a breakfast cereal introduced by Post Cereals in 1971 and featuring characters from the animated series The Flintstones. It contains crispy rice cereal bits that come in a variety of fruit flavors. A similarly-themed cereal is Cocoa Pebbles. Despite the product's name, the list of ingredients names no fruits in its contents (although it apparently contains coconut oil and palm kernel oil). While still widely available within the United States, Fruity Pebbles is no longer available in Canada. [citation needed] Image File history File links Box728b. ... Product history

Unlike its sister cereal Cocoa Pebbles, which has remained essentially the same over the years, Fruity Pebbles has undergone many formula additions and variants such as "Fiesta Fruity Pebbles", "Half Sugar Fruity Pebbles", "Dino Pebbles", "Marshmallow Mania Pebbles", and "Bronto Bright Pebbles". The cereal started out with three flavors: Orange, cherry, and lemon. New flavors were added over time such as grape in 1980, lime in 1984, Berry Blue in 1994, Incrediberry Purple in 1995 and Bedrock Berry Pink in 2005. Dino Pebbles

Dino Pebbles was available from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s. Dino Pebbles had the distinction of having the most marshmallows per box of any cereal, the second being Pac-Man cereal. Marshmallow Mania Pebbles also had something that Dino Pebbles didn't have, and that was tiny sprinkles. Both cereals are no longer made. In more recent times Dino Pebbles cereal was resurrected under the name Marshmallow Mania Pebbles. It is unknown whether Marshmallow Mania Pebbles are still being produced anymore.

The formula for both versions of Pebbles had a major addition in 2006: polydextrose became a key ingredient. Polydextrose is a multi-purpose additive synthesized from dextrose, plus about 10 percent sorbitol and 1 percent citric acid. ...

Marshmallow Mania Pebbles

It is unsure when Marshmallow Mania Pebbles was made. It was probably made sometime in 2006. Marshmallow Mania Pebbles was Dino Pebbles, but under the new name of Marshmallow Mania Pebbles. Marshmallow Mania Pebble also had tiny sprinkles, which is something that Dino Pebbles didn't have. It is unknown whether Marshmallow Mania Pebbles are still being produced anymore.

Television commercials

The classic television commercials for both Pebbles cereals had a recurring theme: Barney Rubble attempts to trick Fred Flintstone out of his cereal, or to simply steal it outright. Barney was often in disguise in these attempts, and sometimes, he pulled off his gag with some help from Dino. In protest, of his breakfast being swiped, Fred would yell, "Barney! My Pebbles!" and would often give chase. Barney Rubble. ... Information Nickname(s) Twinkletoes Aliases Frederick F. Pebbles Flintstone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (446 words)
Pebbles Flintstone (also known as Pebbles Flintstone-Rubble as an adult) is a fictional character, the red-haired daughter of Fred and Wilma Flintstone.
Pebbles was born at the Bedrock Rockapedic Hospital on February 22, 10,000 B.C. (according to the series' producers, though that particular year was never actually cited within the show itself; most versions of the show put the Flintstones' era as circa 1,000,000 B.C.).
Pebbles (in her conventional toddler incarnation) is sometimes seen in the various Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles cereal commercials that have been produced over the years.
fruity (432 words)
This commercial is part of a long running Fruity Pebbles series in which Barney Rubble continually outwits Fred Flintstone and "gets" the cereal (prize).
Fruity Pebbles exemplifies this practice, utterly depending on the established fame of 'The Flintstones' television show to give the cereal value among children (and adults).
Furthermore, image 3 shows on the screen while the announcer makes the generic remark that Fruity Pebbles are "part of a balanced breakfast." As Atkin and Gibson (1978) have shown, children are unable to properly interpret this phrase and its very use raises a number of serious questions(Selling, 1989, p.297).
