There were a number of military academies in Soviet Union of different specialties.


Soviet military and police facilities named "Academy" (Академия, Akademiya) are not a degree-level school (like Western military academies such as West Point), but a post-graduate school for experienced officers. Mikhail Frunze - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (648 words)
Frunze was born in Bishkek, then a small Imperial Russian garrison town in the Kyrgyz part of Turkestan, the son of a Romanian peasant (originally from Bessarabia).
Following the disastrous end of the movement, Frunze was arrested and sentenced to death, but he was later reprieved and his sentence was commuted to life at hard labour.
The Frunze Military Academy, one of the most respected in the former Soviet Union, was also named in his honour.
