Fusobacteria are the most frequently isolated bacteria of early tropical ulcers, having been implicated in about 35% of all cases (67).
Fusobacteria are capable of producing infections that result in significant morbidity and mortality.
The presence of fusobacteria as part of the normal flora of the oropharynx, female genital tract, and gastrointestinal system appears to be critical to the pathogenesis of a number of these infections.
