The Akita was officially recognized by the FCI as a breed in 1964.
The goal by informed Akita dog breeders was to eliminate faults in both the Dewa and the Ichinoseki types and breed toward the Japanese dog type described in the Japanese Akita dog standards.
The white Akita is a “bleached” red or brindle colour, caused by the chinchilla-genes influence on the colour genes (does not influence the fl colour).
