Encyclopedia > Fuzzy felts

Fuzzy Felt is a popular toy for very young children. A large area of brushed felt, typically printed with a picture such as a farmyard scene, is given a card backing.

A number of smaller shaped felt pieces are provided, which adhere weakly to the backed felt, due to the meshing of the brushed fibres. These shapes may also be printed, or may simply be silhouettes of the items they're intended to represent.

For a farmyard scene, auxiliary pieces would typically be cows, sheep, chickens, horses, cats, dogs, a farmer, and a tractor. Other scenes might include a jungle or a village high-street.

Fuzzy felts are fairly safe for young children, because the small pieces are unlikely to result in digestive problems, and shouldn't present a significant choking hazard.
