The Fylmz Festival has made its mark as a revolutionary new film festival out of Nashville, TN, offering distribution and a $100,000 prize for Best Feature Film. A $3,500 prize for Best Short Film will also be awarded. The first annual Fylmz Festival is Feb. 8-10, 2007 at the Belcourt Theatre, according to a Fylmz press release. The Fylmz Festival has received coverage in MovieMaker Magazine, Screen International Magazine, Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Tennessean, The Nashville Scene, and The Nashville Business Journal.

"Filmmakers submit their short- and feature-length films on Fylmz.com, and every single film submitted is posted on our Web site, where Fylmz.com members view and rate the films, helping us winnow down the Fylmz Festival finalists," says Ellen Mallernee-Barnes, head of public relations for Fylmz. "It's a one-of-a-kind way for filmmakers to get unbiased feedback on their films. Our aim is to distinguish our Festival with the first truly democratic voting process that lets the audience decide which film they like best."

Mallernee-Barnes says Fylmz.com has also become a popular online community, toolbox and resource portal for those passionate about film. "We have some really fun, addictive games on the site," she says. "And our community section has taken off, too. We also have a collaborative scriptwriting program on our Web site that's been a big draw."

The Fylmz.com Festival was created to give independent filmmakers an alternative to the traditional film festival system, and movie fans a place to find fresh new films and talent. The Festival offers a powerful voice to film audiences along with recognition, and the opportunity for actual distribution, to independent filmmakers.
