G. Alan Marlatt, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at the University of Washington and Director of the Addictive Behaviors Research Center at that institution. He has conducted pioneering research in three areas: harm reduction, brief interventions, and relapse prevention. The University of Washington, founded in 1861, is a major public research university in the Seattle metropolitan area. ...


Dr. Marlatt's books include Relapse Prevention (1988), Harm Reduction (1998), , Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (1999), and Assessment of Addictive Behaviors (2005). In addition he has published over 200 book chapters and journal articles.


Professor Marlatt is a recipient of the Jellinek Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to knowledge in the field of alcohol studies and the Distinguished Research Award from the Research Society on Alcoholism.
