Encyclopedia > G. Kennedy Thompson

G. Kennedy "Ken" Thompson (born November 25, 1950) is the current CEO, President, and Chairman of Wachovia Bank. After attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he did his MBA in Wake Forest University at Winston Salem, he later joined the bank in 1976 when it was First Union National Bank. Ken quickly rose in the ranks of the company to become the CEO after the merger of First Union and Wachovia. November 25 is the 329th (in leap years the 330th) day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. ... 1950 (MCML) was a common year starting on Sunday (link will take you to calendar). ... Wachovia Corporation NYSE: WB, based in Charlotte, North Carolina is one of the largest banking chains in the United States. ...

Ken was also responsible for the distincted post-merger Wachovia logo, of white wave shaped lines meeting to make blue and green. During merger talks, Ken was scribbling on paper and, in a moment of brilliance that acquaintances can only refer to as "Ken-etics," he happened to scribble on paper what was to become the new mega-bank's logo.

Ken has three children, Kenny, Stacey, and Scotty, and currently lives in Charlotte, NC. Kenny, Ken's first son, was kidnapped during his senior year in high school. He daringly escaped his captors, now serving time in state prison, in only an hour, just in time for a trip to Atlanta. He is commonly referred to as "Hooper" in reference to his striking resemblance to Richard Dreyfuss, his favorite actor, in the first, and arguably the best, Jaws movie.
