Koppell has been urged to run by nearly 100 members of the M.S. 141 faculty and by the leadership of the United Federation of Teachers are also urging Koppell to run.
Koppell was elected to the State Assembly in 1970 where he served as representative of the Northwest Bronx for 23 years.
Koppell initiated several important programs that continue to serve the community: the Kingsbridge-Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corporation, the Association of Riverdale Cooperatives, and the Citizens' Court Monitoring Project.
