GMA Network, Inc. is a leading TV network in the Philippines. It provides news and entertainment programs to the Filipino audience through its 44 fully-owned transmitter stations nationwide and two affiliate stations. Its headquarters is in Quezon City, Metro Manila.It has a network of 46 VHF stations. GMA Network traces its origin to June 14, 1950, when American war correspondent Robert Stewart (also known as Uncle Bob) sent his first radio transmission through AM airwaves via his station, DZBB. The Stewarts then started RBS Channel 7 on October 29, 1961. Channel 7 at this time aired mostly canne shows from the United States. In the 1970s Gilberto M. Duavit, Menardo R. Jimenez and Felipe L. Gozon, took over and sought to rework the station's image as a home for re-runs and kiddie shows. They relied on a P7-million credit line which ensured upgraded equipment and a full-color setup. They then shifted Republic Broadcasting System to Greater Manila Area (GMA)-Radio Television Arts.
