gaetan gatian de clerambault's - syndrome - i have worked in mental health with a patient who had this syndrome. she was a greek cypriot & had had an arranged marriage which was very traditional and oppressive. one day she got a job at a supermarket run by an asian man.he was very kind to her and she fell in love with him. he was married and quite happy and did not intend to be anything other than kind and considerate to her as a member of staff. she interpreted any acts of kindness and consideration for her as his falling in love with her . she then had a break down and was admitted to hospital.she rejected her husband and grown up sons, though they came to visit her and constantly pined for the asian store manager. on any outings with the patients we had to circumnavigate the store which was not far from the hospital. i often wonder how she is now and how it all ended as i left the mental health facility to work elsewhere. i now work on a psychic phone line and often have queries from clients regarding relationships. many are unable to let go of the past or old loves and i feel sure that de clerambault's syndrome is more common and more prevalent today than in the past and amongst some of those who consult me on the phone line - marlene
