Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas Galway Cathedral is a Catholic Cathedral located in the city of Galway, dedicated to Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas by Cardinal Richard Cushing in 1965. It is one of the largest and most impressive buildings in the city. Built between 1958 and 1965, it stands on the site of the old city jail. The exterior design isn't to everyone's taste, but the interior with its high, curved arches and central dome, has a simple, solid elegance.
