GaoYao was in ancient times considered to belong to the land of the "BaiYue Tribes" (a peripheral region lying outside the central part of China), one of the places in South China where the Qing Emperor first set up an administration for governance.
GaoYao is situated in the middle of GuangDong Province, along the down stream of XiJiang.
GaoYao has a mild climate with abundant rainfall and rich soil, thus being acclaimed as the 'Land of Fish and Rice'.
