Garc�a Oliver was a leading anarchist figure in Spain. Along with Buenaventura Durruti, he founded Los Solidarios, an anarchist group responsible for various assassinations, including an attempt to assasinate King Alfonso XIII. He eventually became the leader of the Federaci�n Anarquista Ib�rica. When the Confederaci�n Nacional del Trabajo reluctantly decided to enter government during the Spanish Civil War, Oliver served as Minister of Justice under Largo Cabellero. He encouraged workers to disarm during the Barcelona May Days, calling a ceasefire. Some consider him a traitor to the Spanish anarchists for his willingness to compromise with government, while others point out that concessions were understandable considering the need to defeat Francisco Franco.
