Garfield Ridge is one of the closest neighborhoods in Chicago to Midway Airport, served by the Orange Line, the 55A, 55N. 62, and 62H busses. It stretches from the Stevenson express way to 59th street, and from Cicero to Harlem. The neighborhood consists mainly of blue collar workers. Many immigrants from Poland moved to Garfield Ridge to live nearby their earlier-migrated relatives, who had moved from the overcrowded conditions of the Logan Square area to the relative spaciousness of the southwest side. Since the 1990s, many Hispanics have also started moving into the neighborhood. There is generally a large Catholic population, and the area is served by many Catholic schools, including St. Daniel's and St. Jane's. The public schools serving the community are Kinzie Elementary, Byrne Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, Kennedy High School.

Garfield Ridge boasts some fine dining, ranging from Bella Tuscan Italian cuisine, to Danny's Pizza, to Obbie's Pizza, to Tina's pizza, to Nicky's Hot Dogs. The two main bakeries are Racine Bakery and Webber's Bakery, and they have been around for ages and ages. The bagel shop on Merrimac and Archer used to be a prime spot for the bagel-theivery of Kennedy students. Because of this, the bagel shop was forced to close down. There now stands an insurance company, dancing on the grave of those tasty bagels.

Most people here would like to live in the suburbs, but don't, for some reason.
