The Garryales are a small order of dicotyledons, including only two families and three genera:

These belong among the asterids. Under the older Cronquist system, the Garryaceae were placed among the Cornales. The Eucommiaceae were given their own order and placed among the Hamamelidae.

Still, Engler & Prantl considered Garryaceae to be a primitive, amentiferous angiosperm, and positioned them (as Garryales) between the Salicales and Myricales at the beginning of the flowering plants.
Hutchinson was one of the first to associate Garryaceae with the Cornales, and there it largely remained until excluded once again by Takhtajan in 1997.
I tend to concur with Cronquist on this one that most of these are basically cornelean, and the molecular data seems to confirm this (see also Xiang & al., Ann.
