Player Bio: Gary Williams :: Men's Basketball (4013 words)
Williams was one of only five coaches in NCAA Division I to have led his team to 11 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, from 1994-2004.
For Williams, now in his 17th season, the accomplishments of the past 12 years have been particularly sweet for a coach whose roots with the program extend to his playing days in the late 1960s, and whose earliest seasons as head coach were tormented by NCAA sanctions he inherited.
Williams' past 12 seasons have brought Maryland from striving for contention in the Atlantic Coast Conference to the realization of the tournament title in 2004; from endeavors to become nationally competitive to the reality of 11 NCAA berths, seven Sweet Sixteen appearances, two Final Fours and of course, the 2002 NCAA championship.
