Stewart was educated at Banting Institute, receiving a Mortician Certificate. In 1974, he became President of G. Stewart Travel Services in Peterborough, which he continued to operate throughout his political career. He also served as a director of the Peterborough Civic Hospital. Stewart became Deputy Reeve of the Township of Otonabee in 1985, and was a Warden of Peterborough County from 1992 to 1994.
If Stewart had truly wanted to play nice with his critics, he might have said he was out of line all those times his temper got the best of him.
All Stewart got for his fury was another $10,000 fine and an extension of his probation through the end of the season.
Stewart's primary sponsor, The Home Depot, and team owner Joe Gibbs have expressed support for Stewart, the 1999 rookie of the year and clearly one of the most talented drivers in Winston Cup.
