Gaylussite is a mineral, a hydrated sodium calcium carbonate, formula Na2Ca(CO3)2.5H2O. It is formed as an Evaporite from non marine waters. Discovered in 1826, it is named after Gay-Lussac, the French scientist. La gaylussite è un minerale, un carbonato idrato di calcio e sodio.
Il nome natrocalcite (gaylussite), deriva invece dal greco νάτρον = sodio e dal latino calcium = calcio, per la sua composizione chimica; da non confondere con la natrocalcite, minerale pressoché omonimo, ma di ben altra composizione chimica, che deriva dal greco νάτρον = sodio e χαλκός = rame.
