Geelong is a port city of 200,067 people (2003 census) located on Corio Bay. The city is located 75 kilometres south-west of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. Geelong is the second oldest Australian Rules football club (after the Melbourne Football Club), and ninth oldest football club in the world, having been formed in the Victoria Hotel in 1859.
Geelong was originally based at Corio Oval and originally flew the Geelong banner under the nicknames of the Seagulls, or the Pivotonians.
Geelong is honoured to have the VFL's award for the best and fairest player in a VFL/AFL season named after one of its own, in Charles Brownlow, a Geelong and VFL administrator who died in early 1924.
