Encyclopedia > Gels

A gel is an apparently solid, jellylike material formed from a colloidal solution. By weight, gels are mostly liquid, yet they behave like solids. An example is gelatin.

In fiber-optic communications, a gel resembling petroleum jelly in viscosity is used to surround a fiber, or multiple fibers, enclosed in a loose buffer tube. This gel serves to lubricate and support the fibers in the buffer tube. It also prevents water intrusion if the buffer tube is breached. Gels are also used in fiber-optics as index-matching materials.

In optical filters and theatrical lighting a color gel is a transparent or translucent colored panel used to change the color of transmitted light.

Unfortunately, there are very limited resources available where you can find accurate and detailed info on how to make gel candles properly.
Once the public knows what to look for in a good gel candle, they can feel confident in buying gel candles with the Safe Gel seal of approval.
Gel candles don't have to be hard to make, but they do have to be made by exact specifications for ensured safety.
GeL (1121 words)
GeL is not as mature as gema or Lua, please report any bugs you may find using SourceForge bug tracking subsystem (you don't need to log in as a SourceForge user) or sending an e-mail to Remo Dentato.
Actually there is another difference that it's not related to gel, I had to add a fflush(stderr) to the l_message() function to fix a problem with the mingw compiler.
Gel was made by Remo Dentato and enahanced by Reuben Thomas.
