The General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters was published in 1864 by John Herschel. It was combined with other observations to produce the New General Catalogue in the 1880s by J. L. E. Dreyer. The GC catalogued nebulae, contained 5,000 entries, half of the observations by father William Herschel, half by son John. Later, a complementary edition of the catalog was published posthumously as the General Catalogue of 10,300 Multiple and Double Stars.

The General Education Program seeks to develop further the abilities and skills of students by fostering: (1) extensive communication and analysis; (2) an elevated social conscience and commitment to a life of involvement and public service; and (3) opportunities to study and to develop one’s own system of values.
Six CLEP general credits may be counted as satisfying the requirements of one subcategory in each of the second, third, and fourth categories (Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities), for a maximum of 18 credits representing three subcategories.
Buckle's History is generally considered a pioneering attempt at "scientific" history, special emphasis being laid on climate, food supply and soil conditions as factors in the growth or decline of societies.
Generally considered a follower of Schopenhauer, von Hartmann saw his work as mediating between the optimism of Hegel and the pessimism of Schopenhauer.
The general arrangement in both is systematic....but far preferable is the chronological arrangement of the whole (excepting only the letters, and possibly, a few minor works) which gives the reader a view of Kant's philosophical development.
