At the first congress of the union that was held on July 16-17, 1988, the prevailing unfavourable conditions for workers was criticised and a decision was adopted to change the name of the union to its present form.
The military court passed a ruling on 9.10.1984 for the acquittal of all of its leaders, and decreed that the headquarters and branches of the union be opened and returned to the administration of union officers.
The charter of the union, as amended in 1993, declares that the union was „born from the need, in the conflict between capital and labour, to form a disciplined force against capital and to organize labour".
