Love, Geoffrey [Geoff] (1917-1991), popular composer, bandleader, and trombonist, was born on 4 September 1917 in Todmorden, Yorkshire, the only son and younger of the two surviving children of Thomas Edward (Kidd) Love (c.1886-1923/4), a dancer and guitarist, and his wife, Frances Helen Maycock (1892-1975), an actress and singer from a touring theatrical family.
Love travelled on the road with his family until the age of six, when his father died and the family returned to their grandmother's house.
Love travelled the country with an orchestra of student musicians, giving schools a concert of accessible musical pieces with linking commentary on the various instruments provided by his son Adrian or by the entertainer Rolf Harris.
Geoff would cook dinner on the grill and we'd eat dinner with our friends and neighbors, Heather and Arek (who we'll miss probably more than we can anticipate) and then end up talking until well past dark, padding inside for sweaters or more drinks or to go to the bathroom.
Geoff!" He didn't wake up until after I'd thrown some pillows at his head, and then finally, FINALLY, he got up and got Katie out of her isolette and brought her near-helpless, tiny, red body to me so that I could hold her and try to nurse her.
Geoff heard it before I did, and later, when we were listening, again, to the first part of the CD, Geoff said that the last song made him think of us.
