Abecassis continued his own career and finished second in the Sebring 12 Hours, partnered by Reg Parnell.
Abecassis decided to give up racing and concentrate on running the business and by the end of the 1950s HWM had disappeared from the racing scene.
Abecassis later married the daughter of Aston Martin's chairman Sir David Brown and ran a successful business for many years before retiring.
George Abecassis - Grand Prix Racing - the whole story (379 words)
Apparently George's particularly favourite pastime was dropping S.O.E. agents behind enemy lines.
Having been relatively successful with an Alta in club races during the years immediately prior to the war it was perhaps natural that when hostilities ceased he became involved in the ongoing development of the marque and he took delivery of the first Alta Grand Prix car (GP1) in 1948.
With the Alta proving to be less than successful George decided to join forces with a close friend, John Heath.
