The 18th festival in 2007 stands by tradition in opening with the six-day Enescu competition (between the 2nd and 7th of September, with the finals taking place on the 8th of September) concentrating on areas of Enescu's special interests - violin, piano and string quartet in performance and, in composition, works for orchestra or chamber ensemble. Prizes up to €15,000 for performers and €10,000 for composers and distinguished juries characterise the high standard of the competition. Throughout the whole period there are events in City Square (Piata Revolutiei) including concerts by students from the neighbouring music academies, recitals, movie screenings and an exhibition on George Enescu at the National Museum of Art of Romania (5-8 September).
