John Forrest, grandfather of the gentlemen whose names open this sketch, was born in Scotland, and was married in Edinburgh, the capital of that country, to Jean Johnson, who after his death came to America in 1839, and now lies in Allegheny cemetery; her husband died in London, England.
George Forrest, father of Robert R., Richard R. and J. Forrest, was born November 24, 1803, in Penrith, County of Cumberland, England, which county, being on the border, was for a long time claimed by Scotland.
