George Henry Gordon (1823-86) was an American soldier. He was born at Charlestown, Mass., graduated at West Point in 1846, and served in the southern campaign in the Mexican War, earning the brevet of first lieutenant. He resigned from the army in 1854. After taking a course in the Harvard Law School, he practiced law in Boston until the War of the Rebellion erupted in 1861, after which he organized and became colonel of the Second Massachusetts Volunteers. He became a brigadier general of volunteers in 1862 and fought in various battles, and on April 9, 1865, was breveted major general of volunteers. He served in the army until August 24, 1865. Afterwards he practiced law in Boston. He published the following books: Birdseye view of Boston, Charlestown, and Bunker Hill between 1890 and 1910. ...
