Encyclopedia > George Turner (writer)

George Turner (1916-1997) was an Australian science fiction writer known for the solemnity of his stories and for being a "late bloomer" by science fiction standards. His first story and novel came out in 1978 when he was 61-62 years old. In novels like The Drowning Towers and Genetic Soldier he displayed moderately gloomy visions of global warming's future ramifications. The former novel won an Arthur C. Clarke Award. Much of his work has a strongly "Australian" feel that incorprates the aboriginal cultures as well. Despite his late start at death he was arguably one of the elder statesman of Australian science fiction. 1916 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia /**/ @import /skins-1. ... 1997 is a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar. ...
