George Washington Cutter (1801-65) was an Americanpoet. He was born in Massachusetts and, after studying law, settled in Kentucky. He fought in the Mexican War and later entered the political field, where he soon became known as a brilliant speaker. His most celebrated poems are "The Song of Steam," "The Song of the Lightning," and "E Pluribus Unum."
