Officer candidate can be combined with most ranks from Soldat to Oberstabsgefreiter, forming Soldat OA through Oberstabsgefreiter OA, respectively. Army and Air Force officer candidateship is indicated by a silver string worn across the usual insignia. Navy officer candidateship is indicated by a star. Fahnenjunker/Seekadett, Fähnrich and Oberfähnrich are the 3 standard ranks of an officer candidate career.
