The first German Cup final was contested in the 1934-35 season between 1. FC Nürnberg and Schalke 04 and won 2:0 by Nürnberg. At the time it was known as the Tschammerpokal, named after Reichssportführer Hans von Tschammer und Osten. After a ten year interruption due to World War II, the West German Football Association re-introduced the competition in 1952. The most recent winner, in the 2005-06 season, is Bayern Munich, which also won the Bundesliga title, winning "the Double" for the second conscutive season, a first since the creation of the Bundesliga.
