They were one of the earliest American publications to feature prominent Asian movie stars from Chow Yun Fat to Jackie Chan, as well as Asian musicians from indie and punk bands. The magazine is also popular for their creative t-shirts and odd toys. In the late 90's they opened a webstore and then in 2001, they opened the first Giant Robot store in Los Angeles and later one in San Francisco and then another in Los Angeles called GR2 which features contemporary young artists artwork and products. Recently they have opened a store in New York City and Silverlake, and also opened a restaurant called gr/eats also in Los Angeles.
