The Giant Barb or Siamese Giant Carp is the largest species of carp in the world. They are found only in the Maeklong, Mekong and Chao Phraya river basins. They are usually seen in the big pools along the edges of these large rivers, but will seasonally enter smaller canals, floodplains and flooded forests. Young barbs can acclimatize to living in smaller tributaries, ponds, canals and swamps, but will need to switch to large bodies of water as they reach a mature size.
