Gilberto Velazquez was raised in New York City, and begun singing when he was 3 years old. Velazquez father played a major influence in his vocal interest. When Velazquez was 14 he started singing with Francisco Cortijo y sus Estrellas, then at 16 his first recording was with Grupo Magia.
