Since 1991, the festival has been screening feature length movies on a 35 foot screen that rises out of Lake Winnipeg. Viewers descend on the beach at sunset with shovels or beach chairs and settle into comfort as movies are shown under the stars and sometimes the northern lights. Shorts and documentaries are screened at the nearby Lady of the Lake Theatre. This five day event occurs at the end of July. The festival emphasizes films from the circumpolar nations and gives special attention to homegrown Canadian films every year.
