Eminent Kannada film-maker Girish Kasaravalli started his career with "Ghatashraddha" in 1977. It won the "Swarna Kamal" (Golden Lotus) for 'Best Feature Film', from the Government of India, that year. He followed it up with a series of artistic masterpieces including "Tabarana Kathe" (1987) starring Charu Hasan, "Thayi Saheba" (1997) produced by and starring actress Jayamala, and "Dweepa" (produced by and starring the late actress Soundarya) in 2002. All these films also won the "Swarna Kamal" in their respective years of release, making Kasaravalli the only Indian film maker after Satyajit Ray (who won the award six times) to have as many films so honored. Satyajit Ray (Bangla:সত্যজিত্‍ রায়) (May 2, 1921 - April 23, 1992) was an Academy Award winning Bengali film director whose films are perhaps the greatest testament to Bengali and Indian cinema. ...


His most recent film, "Haseena" (2004), produced by and starring Tara, bagged her the 'Best Actress' national award. "Hasina" is the story of a courageous muslim woman who has to battle the odds to 'win' justice for herself and her children after her husband abandons her.
