Givenchy-en-Gohelle is a commune of northern France. Population (1999): 2,093.

Administration

Givenchy-en-Gohelle is located in the Pas-de-Calais département. It belongs to the communauté d'agglomération of Lens-Liévin (Communaupole) which gathers 36 communes, with 250,000 inhabitants. Givenchy-en-Gohelle is part of arrondissement of Arras.


Geography

Its neighboring and bounding communes are Souchez to the west, Angres to the northwest, Lievin to the north, Avion to the east and Vimy to the southeast.


Forests cover the north and is named Bois de Givenchy or Givenchy Forest.


Miscellaneous

It is on its territory that is the most significant Canadian monument with the victims of First World War, on the site of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.


The commune of Givenchy-in-Gohelle also presents the characteristic to have planted grapes (chardonnay and pinot gris). The first grape harvest took place in 2000.
