In the 1960s and 70s, many small, independent distillers were bought up or went bankrupt. In order to survive, W. Grant & Sons embarked on a bold campaign to introduce the world to the pleasures of single malt Scotch. This strategy worked, and Glenfiddich is now the world's best-selling single malt. It is sold in 180 countries, and accounts for about 20% of single malt sales. In 1957 the company started bottling Glenfiddich in a triangular bottle. Later, W. Grant & Sons was the first to package its bottles in tubes and gift tins. In 1969 the Glenfiddich was the first distillery in Scotland to open a visitor's centre. W. Grant & Sons was also the first distiller to recognise the importance of the duty-free market for spirits, and take advantage of these opportunities.
Production
Swan necked copper stills in the distillery. The whisky is the only Highland or Speyside Scotch whisky to be distilled, matured and bottled at a single distillery. The distillery is the only Scotch whisky distillery to use a single source of natural spring water. This source is the Robbie Dhu springs. Glenfiddich is matured in oak casks such as sherry butts from Spain or Bourbon whiskey barrels from America. Image File history File links Glenfiddich_Distillery_stills. ...
