GnomeFiles is a software repository for the Gtk graphical toolkit and the GNOME desktop environment. It was launched on 16 June2004[1], two months after GNOME closed its software repository due to security issues. It is an admitted clone of BeBits, a similar BeOS software repository which predates it by half a decade, down to the interface. GnomeFiles is currently owned by OSNews LLC. Except its dedicated WAP site, the main GnomeFiles site is written using the http://www.MoBits.com mobile-browser autodetection engine, which autodetects more than 150 mobile, embedded and text-mode browsers and serves them automatically lighter, ad-free cHTML pages.
